Prof. Ki-Joune Li is working at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Pusan National University, South Korea. He received his Bachelor and Master of science degrees in computer sciences from Seoul National University, South Korea in 1984 and 1986, and Ph.D in spatial databases from INSA de Lyon, France in 1992. He has been working on GIS and spatial databases since last decades and in 2007 he launched an ambitious multi-national project called ISA (Indoor Spatial Awareness) as the project leader for indoor spatial information modeling. An international standard working group has been established in OGC as an outcome of this project, where Prof. Li is working as a co-chair as well as the ACM SIGSpatial Workshop on ISA. He served as chair of several academic international events such as ACM GIS in 2000, W2GIS in 2005 and 2014, STDBM in 2006, SSTD 2015, and ACM SIGSpatial ISA Workshop. He served as the president of Korea Spatial Information Society. Since 2016, he is also leading the UN Open GIS initiative as a co-chair, which aims at developing and providing open source geospatial software to the UN. He is a directive board member of SSTD Endowment.
